Mom in the Mirror

Noriko, a 26-year-old single mother, works part-time at a supermarket while raising her three-year-old son, Makoto. Struggling with bias against single mothers, pressure from her ex-husband, and harassment at work, she feels increasingly trapped. Then she discovers rap music, opening up a new way to see herself. She begins to put her unspoken thoughts into words, one beat at a time.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Toshio Lee 李 闘士男

Toshio Lee began his career as a television program director in the 1990s, primarily directing variety shows. He made his feature film directorial debut with Backdrop del mio Papa (お父さんのバックドロップ, 2004). His 2008 comedy Detroit Metal City, based on the popular manga by Kiminori Wakasugi and starring Kenichi Matsuyama, was a commercial success. He has since directed films including Box! (ボックス!, 2010), Recipes of Diet Diaries (体脂肪計タニタの社員食堂, 2013), Bali Big Brother (神様はバリにいる, 2014), and When I Get Home, My Wife Always Pretends to Be Dead (家に帰ると妻が必ず死んだふりをしています。, 2018). He has also directed television dramas, including Blazing Transfer Students (炎の転校生REBORN, 2017).
