Saune

On the last day of business at a soon-to-close sauna, regular Kawada arrives with his friend Okino. Kawada sets out to confess his love to a female staff Misako and musters his courage by enduring the sauna’s intense heat one last time. As Kawada, Okino, and the others experience the sauna’s final day together, the heat brings out something unexpected in each of them.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Daigo Matsui 松居 大悟

Daigo Matsui was born in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. In 2009, he made his debut as a drama writer with NHK’s Twin Spica (ふたつのスピカ), becoming the youngest writer to do so. He made his feature directorial debut with Afro Tanaka (アフロ田中, 2012), and has since directed films including Our Huff and Puff Journey (私たちのハァハァ), Japanese Girls Never Die (アズミ・ハルコは行方不明), Just Remembering (ちょっと思い出しただけ), Hand (手), and Meets the World (ミーツ・ザ・ワールド). His distinctive, unconventional style has earned recognition both in Japan and abroad. He has also worked extensively in television and theater, and published his first novel, See You Again, Family (またね家族), in 2020.
