The Notes

After the death of his beloved wife, Scott moves to Tokyo and retreats from the world, finding solace in music. When he notices that his neighbor’s daughter, Lelia, is being abused, he becomes increasingly concerned. Though the two cannot understand each other’s language, a connection begins to form between them through music. One day, Scott picks up a letter Lelia has dropped, revealing a secret that changes everything.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Riko Murakami 村上 リ子

Riko Murakami is a filmmaker and screenwriter. She graduated from Keio University, where she studied econometrics and social psychology. She began writing novels and screenplays at the age of 12 and won the top prize among 20,000 entries nationwide at the Seiko Tanabe Award. While at university, she worked for an advertising agency and a children’s support NPO. She began pursuing filmmaking independently in 2020. The Notes marks her directorial debut.
