About the film festival
The Chicago Japan Film Collective is the only Japanese film festival in the Midwest. This annual festival aims to bring outstanding Japanese films—focusing on independent, women-led, LGBTQ, and minority filmmakers—to audiences in the U.S. With a diverse selection of feature-length fiction, documentary, and animated works, the festival seeks to connect audiences from two countries, fostering mutual understanding and respect through cinema. By showcasing these films each year, we hope to expand the reach of independent filmmaking and introduce new Japanese talent to international audiences, exploring opportunities for global distribution in an industry where such opportunities are often limited for indie creators.
